Snapshots from Italy

Ciao from Santa Margherita Ligure my dears!  I thought I’d pop in to say a quick hello, but don’t put on the coffee because I can’t stay long!

Last Saturday we had our (slightly belated) wedding, and words cannot describe the strength of emotions that accompanied it.  It was gorgeous, perfect, amazing, and wonderful in every way, from the day, to the toasts, to the food, to the decor, but most importantly the people.  Simply indescribable to be surrounded by and supported by so many people we love, adore actually, as we declared our love and commitment to one another.  And, what a party!  When I have processed it a little more, I’ll share more with you.

But for now, let’s focus on, well, now.  We are so lucky as to be getting to borrow a friend’s apartment on the Italian Riviera for our honeymoon. Seriously.  Somebody pinch me.

We’ve been here a sum total of a day and a half and already I’ve taken in more beauty than my eyes can handle.  But, I’m coming back for seconds tomorrow!

We arrived and settled in – jet-laggedly – yesterday, and took just a small jaunt around Santa Margherita, where we’re staying.  Today we shook ourselves awake early(ish), drank the first of what proved be many, many cappucinos of the day, and then wandered over to Portofino, that jewel-like port favored by movie stars and other multi-millionaires.

And by wandered, I mean we scrambled straight up a steep cobble stone path through the hills, stepping over the skinks scribbling here and there and gawking at the olive groves and the views.  Then, descended just as precipitously to the mare in Portofino.  Where we ambled from designer shop to designer shop, tried to push our jaws back up into our heads as we gawked at the size of the yachts (big enough to sink a ship, I tell you!).

And ate!  Pizza, panini, more cappuccinos, gelato…  Then we walked back to Santa Margherita, and picked up some groceries on the way.  May I just give my humble opinion here that any country that wraps prepared foods and fresh pastas in adorable printed paper and ties it with a string, and offers drinkable wine for 2 Euros, and offers whipped cream on top of your cappuccino as a standard menu option, should quite possibly be in charge.  Please?

That’s all for now, but I’ll try to stop back in in a few days as we have more adventures!
